I. Material Quality and Properties

Thickness and density

Insufficient thickness (such as less than 0.5mm) is prone to puncture damage, and low density (loose molecular structure) will increase the risk of leakage.

Purity of raw materials

Recycled materials or membrane materials with high impurity content have a high probability of molecular chain breakage, which is prone to form microscopic pores and reduce the anti-seepage performance.

2. Construction Techniques and Laying Quality

Base treatment

The bottom of the pool is not leveled and compacted, and there are sharp objects such as crushed stones and tree roots, which can easily puncture the membrane material. Uneven bases can cause local stress concentration in the membrane material, accelerating its damage.

Welding process

Improper control of temperature, pressure or speed in hot melt welding can lead to unstable weld seams, missed welds or false welds (such as weld lap width less than 10cm), creating leakage channels.

Joint treatment

Complex parts such as corners and edges that have not undergone reinforcement treatment (for instance, without using double welds or reinforcing patches) are prone to cracking due to stress concentration.

3. Environment and Usage Conditions

Geology and Subsidence

Uneven settlement of the foundation will cause excessive stretching of the membrane material, resulting in tearing of the weld points or fracture of the membrane body. Soil frost heaving and the creep of expansive soil can also damage the integrity of the membrane material.

Chemical and biological erosion

If the concentration of acid, alkali or salt in water or soil is too high (such as pH < 4 or pH > 10), long-term erosion will accelerate the aging of the membrane material. Microorganisms (such as certain bacteria) or plant roots penetrate the membrane, affecting the anti-seepage effect.

Ultraviolet Rays and Temperature

When exposed to ultraviolet rays for a long time in an open-air environment, the membrane material will undergo oxidation and degradation, and its flexibility will decline. Extreme temperatures (softening at high temperatures and embrittlement at low temperatures) can cause membrane materials to deform or crack.

4. Later Maintenance and Load

Man-made and mechanical injuries

Water pressure and Load
